8x12 inch photo depicting SOE agents training for Operation Jedburgh at Milton Hall in 1944. Signed by SOE agent Harry Verlander, a veteran of Operation Jedburgh who was dropped into France as a member of Team Harold on 15/16 July 1944.
Operation Jedburgh teams were dropped into occupied France, Holland and Belgium to conduct sabotage anad guerilla warfare and to lead the local resistance forces in actions against the Germans. Like all Allied forces who operated behind Nazi lines, the Jedburghs were subject to torture and execution in the event of capture, under Hitler's notorious Commando Order.
Because the teams normally operated in uniform, to apply this order to them was a war crime. Verlander also took part in Operation Jedburgh operations in Burma under the codename Character Walrus.
A rare signature on a wonderful photo, signed for us during an exclusive private signing at his home in 2011.
